Abstract

Professor of Religion at Princeton University, Jeffrey Stout received his PhD from Princeton University in 1976. Since then he has served as Chair of the Religion Department at Princeton, and as Co-Editor of the Cambridge Series on Religion and Critical Thought. In 2007, Professor Stout will become the President of the American Academy of Religion. He has published and lectured widely on religion, morality and politics. Among his books are:The Flight from Authority: Religion, Morality, and the Quest for Autonomy," "Ethics after Babel: The Languages of Morals and Their Discontents," and most recently: "Democracy and Tradition." The latter two books won the American Academy of Religion Award for Excellence.
