Abstract
1. Research was conducted at UNC-CH for the spring/summer semesters of 2015
2. The following publications were obtained using methods and data from the sabbatical period, though not on the anticipated timeline

The proposed work was the bulk of all time used during the sabbatical period. However, this particular research program proved to be extraordinarily complicated. Sophisticated technology was required to support this work that is not available at Calvin. As a result, this work was informative, but upon returning to Calvin changes were made based on what would be viable here. As a result, the publications cited took advantage of the techniques and evidence learned during the sabbatical period, but deviate from the original research proposed. This sabbatical has had a profound impact on my scholarship. For example, I was able to work with the director of the UNC-CH NMR facility to learn advanced techniques that I could translate to the NMR instrumentation here at Calvin. This has increased the research capacity available to me here at Calvin. Further, I was able to gain exposure to the role of peptides in catalytic systems (the proposed research). While this work is nuanced and challenging, I was able to apply features that are essential to this broad area of investigation and could be explored there at Calvin. This remains an essential part of my laboratories work. Upon returning from this sabbatical, I continued the proposed work and related work with multiple students. Specifically, four undergraduates were co-authors on publications resulting from this period.
