Abstract
We hope you will join us as we continue the work of DCES in providing us opportunities to keep it touch with each other and with the engineering program. Even more importantly, we seek to continue to encourage, support, and challenge one another as brothers and sisters in Christ who work in engineering-related areas.
We are excited to be welcoming Dr. Derek Schuurman as our featured speaker for the Dordt Engineering Society Defender Days Dinner.
Derek will be sharing with us his ongoing journey to connect his faith to his vocation as an engineer. In his words, "Growing up during the dawn of the personal computer revolution, I was captivated by the possibilities of these new digital tools. But I began to wonder, what does it mean to be a faithful Christian in a digital world? What do bytes have to do with Christian beliefs? Over time, my understanding of the Biblical narrative deepened, and I began to detect other competing narratives in the world of technology. As I began to understand my story as one nested within the Biblical story, the themes of creation, fall, and redemption began to inform my technical work. A Christian perspective of technology will be sketched along with some of the lessons I have learned along the way."
