Biography

Betty Grit (b. 1942) served as a program manager with the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship for more than a decade, until her retirement in 2013. Her primary responsibility at CICW was leading and managing the Worship Renewal Grants Program, now called the Vital Worship, Vital Preaching Grants Program. Grit’s work also included leading workshops at the annual Calvin Symposium on Worship and presenting insights gleaned from worship grant projects in schools and churches across North America. She was a contributor to Accessible Gospel, Inclusive Worship by Barbara J. Newman, first published in 2014.

After retiring from CICW, Grit served as a coach for worship leaders for 10 years through the Center for Church Renewal. She has also served as an organist in many churches and chapels.

Grit earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Calvin College in 1964. She and her family established the Covenant Renewal Scholarship for Worship Leaders to benefit Calvin University students with experience and interest in leading worship.
