Abstract
Dr. Stephen Monsma will present "Abraham Kuyper, Pope Leo XIII and the ACLU Consider Faith-Based Organizations' Religious Freedom Rights." The lecture will discuss segments of Dr. Monsma's recently published book entitled Pluralism and Freedom: Faith-Based Organizations in a Democratic Society, including a discussion about the appropriate model for interaction between the government and faith-based organizations pr oviding human services to the public. Monsma asserts that the United States' commitment to pluralism, diversity, and tolerance is easier to follow in theory than in practice. In the lecture, he will contrast the foundation of faith-based organizations' re ligious freedom rights as seen in the perspectives of the ACLU, Abraham Kuyper, and Catholic social thought.
