Abstract

Dr. Siebe Schaap gave a public lecture on managing water in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is recognized world-wide as a leader in water management technology and policy. Because much of the country is below sea level and is the delta for three major rivers, the Netherlands has always faced flooding hazards from both sea and rivers. Global warming adds to these hazards. The lecture is part of Dutch Heritage Month. Dr. Schaap is chairman of the Water Board, Groot Salland, The Netherlands, Chairman of the Federation of Dutch Water Boards and Member of the Dutch Parliament. He is a leading expert on water management issues in the Netherlands.
