Abstract
Dr. Patricia O'Connell Killen spoke on "Backwater, Bellwether, Barometer? Personal Spirituality, Organized Religion and Public Life in the Pacific Northwest." Killen is provost and professor of religion at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and is a well-known American religious historian. Her talk will explore the challenges and opportunities that the Pacific Northwest's religious characteristics have presented to faith communities, as well as consider what the region's religious style might portend for religion in the United States into the mid-21st century.
