Abstract
Dr. Brian Stanley, professor of World Christianity at the University of Edinburgh, is one of the premier historians of modern Christian missions. He is author or editor of m any works, including:
- The Bible and the Flag: Protestant Missions and British Imperialism (1990)
- Missions, Nationalism, and the End of Empire (2003)
- The Cambridge History of Christianity, vol. 8 World Christianities, c. 1815-1914 (2006) and -The World Missionary Conference, Edinburgh 1910 (2009)
He is editor of a major series with Eerdmans, Studies in the History of Christian Missions, with some 20 volumes published or under contract. He also directs the Center for World Christianity at New College, University of Edinburgh Prof. Stanley has recently been investigating the American missionary movement. His lecture is a glimpse of what he thinks is distinctive--and distinctively American--about the American missions movement.
