Abstract

Paul Schrader’s Transcendental Style in Film, since its release in the 1970s, has been an indispensable resource for studying the sacred or spiritual in the realm of cinematic art in a way that ties form to phenomenology. It has opened the door to many similar studies and discussions aboutthe possibility of material expression of an immaterial reality, especially as it concerns the particularly material medium of film. Little discussion, however, has seemed to emerge about the opposite.
