Description
Energy. It’s the driver of our lives, and our systems of production.
In many pre-industrial societies, one of the most widely used forms of energy that drives useful work is food.
People and animals need this food to fuel their labor, which has primarily been used for:
- Food production (ex. Farmers hoeing row crops, Oxen plowing fields)
- Transport of goods/people (ex. Horses carrying mail)
A model for the amount of food consumed for these purposes, and the amount of useful work produced was created for the span 1800-2015.
