Description
Our research focuses on the relationship between atomic 'radii' and ionization energy by exploring the ratio of the radii of the cation to the neutral species. We explore this by describing electrons as wave-like particles; we use Hartree-Fock and Slater-Zener theories to describe their behavior in atoms. Our goal is to capture the general trends in atomic radii across the periodic table and illuminate chemical understanding. For our purposes, we define the “effective” atomic radius as the most probable position to find an electron in the electron cloud.
