The well-being of youth in the United States is being threatened by physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and a range of health risk behaviors (Pierce et al., 2017). According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there are worsening trends in youth health behaviors (Pierce et al., 2017). Sepúlveda and Hutton (2019) suggest with evidence that summer programs effectively reduce drug use, decrease violent crime arrests, increase safe sex practices and dispositions, maintain physical fitness, prevent excessive weight gain, and reduce anxiety
