Description
Adolescents are engaging in unhealthy sexual behaviors that contribute to adverse sexual health outcomes among their age group. Young people aged 15 to 24 make up 50% of Sexually Transmitted Infections diagnoses (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2022; CDC, 2023). Also, despite declining teen birth rates (Elflein, 2023), the United States has one of the highest teen birth rates among other developed countries (United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, 2022). Fortunately, there are studies that show the efficacy of sexual interventions in improving contraception use & intentions and reproductive health knowledge (Tebb et al., 2021),reducing STI rates (Donenberg et al., 2020) and delaying sexual debut (Guilamo-Ramos et al., 2020), among adolescent girls.
