Description

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is one of the largest organelles in the cell. It is also one of the most mysterious. Imagine a maze that never stops moving: Junctions change position, pathways close, and tubules relocate. This labyrinth spans the entire cell, touching nearly every other organelle. It is the central hub for protein synthesis, maturation, and secretion and plays a role in calcium homeostasis and lipid metabolism. We are interested in how the dynamic structure of the ER impacts its function.
