Abstract

Each October, the church commemorates the Reformation, and we hear again that familiar phrase: “The church reformed must always be reforming.” But those words are not a slogan for ecclesiastical pride; they might be a summons to humility. But this slogan must not remain merely a comfort that lulls us into the illusion that we are being reformed. Rather, it should be a warning cry for every Christian about the reality that we are not being reformed today. These words remind us that the church — and each of us within it — must be willing to be changed by God.
